Abu Muslimah
Speaker, Imam, husband and a father of 9, Abu Muslimah’s day revolves around Masjid Ahlus Sunnah. If he isn’t executing his daily activities at the masjid, you will find him chilling out listening and marvelling at the beauty of the Qur’an recited by his former teacher, Ali Abdirahman Al Hudhaify. He is a soft spoken and shy brother but when it comes to al Islam, his shyness disappears and in its place you will find an articulate, passionate brother who`s chest swells in pride and love of his deen though according to him he still finds it difficult to speak in public after all these years. Abu Muslimah accepted Islam in 1978 while still in high school and he used that opportunity to learn more about his deen. After graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in African American studies and Management, he pursued an Arabic language program and Islamic theology on a full scholarship at the University of al Madinah. Upon his return to America in 1994, he settled in East Orange, New Jersey and began his journey as a fulltime teacher at Islamic Day School. A year later, after teaching he was promoted to the Imam of Masjid Rawdatullah. Months later, along with the Muslim community of East Orange, they embarked upon the purchase of the Islamic Center of America, Masjid Ahlus Sunnah.. The Center was purchased in 1997 and Abu Muslimah continues to be its Imam until present.
